Connecticut Student Writers Magazine

A popular avenue for student writing sponsored by the Connecticut Writing Project (CWP) is the Connecticut Student Writers, a kindergarten through high school magazine established in 1987 by the CWP to honor excellence in student writing. The highlight of the publication process is a Recognition Night Publication Celebration hosted by the CWP on the UConn campus.

The magazine provides an arena for Connecticut students to present original works. It provides validation of authorship from Kindergarten through High School. It provides an opportunity for students to present their work before a live audience. Through its pages Connecticut students communicate and are able to recognize the importance of writing in their lives. For many it represents the first (and perhaps only) opportunity to be celebrated. For some it is a stepping stone to further literary endeavors.

Annually, over 1,000 students from across Connecticut submit entries sharing their passion for the craft of writing. From this large pool of applicants, examples of poetry, personal narratives, essays, short stories and drama are chosen to be published at each grade level. Additional pieces are selected for Honorable Mentions.
